Los Cabos in late July is not the Los Cabos on the postcard. The postcard is January: dry, seventy-five degrees, every villa booked eleven months out.
Late July is warmer, wetter, emptier and considerably less expensive. It is also, for one week, when the ATP comes to town.
The tournament
The Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel OPPO runs July 25 to August 2, 2026 — the tenth edition — at the Cabo Sports Complex. ATP 250, hard court, and a week that players seem to genuinely enjoy, which tends to show up in the entry list.
The format is what makes it work as a trip rather than an errand. Qualifying over the opening weekend, then main draw matches through the week with the marquee sessions at night, under lights, with the temperature finally reasonable. You watch tennis after dark and you have the entire day before it.
That day is the actual product. Championship golf on the Pacific side, a marina full of boats with nothing to do until you call, and restaurants that in January would not have taken your call.
The honest part
Late July is green season in Baja, which is the polite name for the wetter half of the eastern Pacific hurricane season. Humidity is up. Afternoon cloud is common. There is a real, if modest, chance of a storm system somewhere in the forecast window.
We would rather say that plainly than let you discover it. What it means in practice is that the week rewards flexibility, and flexibility is precisely what a private aircraft provides. A commercial itinerary in hurricane season is a commitment. A charter is a decision you can revisit twelve hours out.
Getting there
Los Cabos International (SJD / MMSD) in San José del Cabo is the arrival field, about twenty minutes from the tournament site and comfortably inside an hour of most of the Corridor’s resorts. Cabo San Lucas (MMSL) serves lighter traffic at the peninsula’s tip.
From our base at Toluca, it is roughly two hours of block time in a Hawker 800 — one leg, no connection through Guadalajara or Mexico City, and no exposure to a hub on a Friday in summer.
For a group, the arithmetic is simple. Our Hawkers seat eight. The Gulfstream GIV seats fourteen, which is a box at the night session and a table afterward, all arriving together.
Why we like this week
Most of our Premier Events calendar is built around fixtures that everyone already knows about: a Grand Prix, a World Cup, a polo season. San José del Cabo in the last week of July is the opposite. It is a genuine ATP event, in one of the best resort markets in the Americas, during the one stretch of the year when that market has room.
The tennis is the reason to book the week. It is not really the reason to go.
